I hadn't spotted that in the guidelines. Based on what PG, Tim, Jon and Thom said, I've been using the first preview or tryout performance for all my live performances. I do think it's much better to use the first performance when the song was coverable, as PG says. So as long as it's an official commercial performance, it would be more accurate to use that date.
