Label formed originally to release jazz. Later it also released pop and other types of music. A Danish branch was opened in 1951 and a substantial German branch followed in 1954.
The logo shown is the original one, but later all Metronome branches used marginally different variations of the company's newer logo (see Metronome [DE]).
As of January 1, 1977, the German branch was sold to the PolyGram group. At the end of 1996, shortly before being bought by Universal, PolyGram closed their Metronome label.
The Scandinavian part was acquired by the Warner Music Group in 1979 and kept on releasing all kinds of music. The label was temporarily abandoned a few years later but soon revived, partly as WEA-Metronome. - Related labels
