Musical based on the 1928 Joseph Moncure March narrative poem of the same name. The Broadway production opened at the Virginia Theatre on April 13 after a month of previews. It coincidentally opened during the same theatrical season as an off-Broadway musical The Wild Party with the same title and source material.
