A musical with book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson, based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The first performance took place at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the show's initial tryout run. The show opened on Broadway on December 19, 1957, at the Majestic Theatre.
