We have the pleasure of announcing the launch of a brand new user interface! After logging in, click on "Participate" in the top bar menu and discover a very easy way to follow up:

  • How editors are processing your missing cover song suggestions
  • How editors are correcting the data you requested
  • Questions editors might have for you, in order to be able to process your suggestion or error
  • Updates on discussions you've joined.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback! Some of you will have received a "reply request", that's because we identified you as an active member and we are particularly curious to hear your opinion Smile

PS: If the menus are displayed below each other instead of next to each other (see attachment), hit CTRL+F5 and everything should look normal.

So far, sad to say the site seems "clunky" (for lack of a better word) and not very intuitive. In addition, I had left a message/response unread for a long-term project, and now it's gone. I also now have a "1" by "Discuss" and have no clue what it's asking me to do.

Wish my feedback was more positive.

See: https://secondhandsongs.com/case/23344

I saw no other way than rejection here, is there another, better way?

.

It's a classic situation: a perf was added, but the editor forgot to register... (or did not know the submission existed)

I think this will take some time for enough experience before it can be adequately evaluated.

I, too, have a "1" at "discuss." When I click on "discuss" I do not see a "reply request" option. I do have a "need info" request noted at "particpate," but there was no request at the topic referenced (and the song submission referenced at that topic has been added to the data base, apparently without the need for additional information).

I note Walt's question about "rejected" submissions. He's referring to one of mine. Apparently the submitted song had already been submitted (by someone else) but for some reason hadn't actually been posted to the data base. I, myself, don't care much if therefore my submission is marked "rejected," although I do think that in some cases a less perjorative term might be preferable. I'd not like to think that having a submission "rejected" should inhibit a wilingness by participants to submit future contributions.

Of course, take your time. We'll be happy to hear what we can improve.

I, too, have a "1" at "discuss." When I click on "discuss" I do not see a "reply request" option.

After further investigation, I have found a bug so you didn't see the forum browser menu: it was below the forum boards. This should be fixed now.

I do have a "need info" request noted at "particpate," but there was no request at the topic referenced (and the song submission referenced at that topic has been added to the data base, apparently without the need for additional information).

A reply request in the old system is converted into 'need info' in the new system. To get rid of it, just add a comment. I took take of that one.

As described in my reply to walt, a 'reject' is not necessary in this case.

Thanks for your feedback!

I'm still trying to figure out what was wrong with the old system???

Not happy at the moment.

Huge thanks to Mathieu in particular for all the hard work to get this impressive upgrade in place. As VV and Jeff have already identified, there are bound to be a few bugs and gremlins along the way. But in the long run we will all find that this new functionality makes it easier to use the site as we search for increasingly quirky and rare covers.

The old system was very difficult to expand with new functionalities. Every editor was invited to discuss the new system and we received a lot of positive feedback.

Anyway, let me know what issues you have with the new system. I tried to keep the same functionality (and add some more). Everything you did before, should still be possible now.

A few minor comments after processing one new submission:

1. I like that the editor notes are copied to the release rather than the performance. That feels a lot more intuitive.

2. I couldn't see any way to change the comment when finally adding a performance away from "Added, thanks!" Is this field now missing? And trying to edit it with the pencil after didn't seem to work (plus would rather not have to edit comments that way).

3. Emojis don't seem to work anymore. They just reset the message.

4. On an iPhone I can't access the buttons to filter messages by unread/ assigned to me.

5. The forum page suggests that there are two pages worth of unread messages but currently I don't think I have any unread.

I did fool around with the demo site before the upgrade was made permanent, but not enough to comment meaningfully on it. As others have said, it will take some time to get used to.

I do like the way some old submissions of mine are now highlighted so it's easy for me to go back and work on these. I entered 2 covers of "I Idolize You" based on https://secondhandsongs.com/case/62088 but I can't figure out how to mark the submission as processed.

Fixed.

Hit Ctrl-F5 on the form. That should fix it.

4. On an iPhone I can't access the buttons to filter messages by unread/ assigned to me.

Can you show me a screen shot? It works fine on my android smartphone.

5. The forum page suggests that there are two pages worth of unread messages but currently I don't think I have any unread.

Can you be a bit more specific? I'm not sure I understand.

Couple of screenshots:

- first showing the buttons that I can't access to narrow my search for covers and errors on the iPhone; and

- second showing two pages of unread messages in the forum but no messages. I think it may still be counting the messages that have moved to the participate section of site.

Based on the posted comments, I thought oh oh and had no good expectations. But I do like it-- yet don't really get how it would work/operate. So, I am on a song page -- instead of add cover, I would click WHAT to get to the interface page?

Also, what is "generic" going to man-- that word is, IMO not good enough for a website such as this-- maybe, instead place it at the bottom, as "Other?" Isn't that what yu mean?

Could you also add in that column, a choice for "Add new song or artist" for when I/someone wants to do just that-- add a song or an artist that is not n the SHS database?

Finally, I am happy with the present system, but this new one is just fine and I am guessing it is more for ease and simplification for the editors-- Yes?

I had left a message/response unread for a long-term project, and now it's gone.

Are you talking about: "Attention Multi-Lingual Editors and Others"

If yes, it didn't move: https://secondhandsongs.com/topic/69611

No, I was referring to a message I had left unread in the "New replies to my posts" area. I suppose these just got purged. Speaking of "new replies", before when a submission was processed in some material way, a reply was sent to me. Now I don't. Is this intentional? Below is an example of a processed submission that I had to find myself rather than being auto-notified:
