New Participation Interface

I don't see how to use the new interface to respond to a submission when the entry was previously posted. It looks like the only choice is to reject the submission. We should be able to thank the submitter and include a comment that the item was entered.

Speaking of "new replies", before when a submission was processed in some material way, a reply was sent to me. Now I don't. Is this intentional? Below is an example of a processed submission that I had to find myself rather than being auto-notified:

Somehow your email address was marked as invalid so all emails were blocked. It should be fine now.

You mean for a performance that was already suggested by a guest? In that case it needs to be rejected as it's a duplicate.

If it was added by an editor but not from a submission, then you can add the link to the performance in a comment and a button "register performance" will appear. That will mark the submission as processed.

Based on the posted comments, I thought oh oh and had no good expectations. But I do like it-- yet don't really get how it would work/operate. So, I am on a song page -- instead of add cover, I would click WHAT to get to the interface page?

Adding covers is just the same as before. It's the follow up that changed. Submissions aren't considered forum posts anymore, you have to look them up in 'participate'.

I wasn't referring to an external email but on site. Nevertheless, it was answered in an earlier response, but the new process is far from intuitive or being user friendly. Before the submission board was only a single click away as was a list of new replies on your posts. Now it's "what filters do I use again".

Was gonna start a post on nailing down "Electric Boogie" (aka "Electric Slide"), but I think I'll take a sabbatical on initial posts for a while to let things get worked out.

Ah phew. I really like the "register performance" option. It's particularly good for clearing up pages where there are duplicates. Glad it is still available Smile

Not sure I see any new functions at the moment, but a useful one was taken away. Under the user's submissions you were able to sort the "Artists". That was extremely helpful in identifying any duplicates they may have submitted or doing all songs from that artist at the same time.

Not sure how or why it is useful to sort "Last comments" under the user's submissions.

Let's think about simplification then. So let's see: "a list of new replies on your posts" >> that's filter any/any/any/I participated and it's updated since. We could have a "New Replies" shortcut for that one.

And you say the submission board was only a click away. Why did you check out the submission board for? Help me understand?

Can't remember where that was, or how it looked like Unhappy

Anyway, I get the point, but isn't the artist page giving that info in a very straightforward way? See the screenshot from Eddie Clearwater for example.

Also, what is "generic" going to man-- that word is, IMO not good enough for a website such as this

Good point. During the preparation phase, baggish was also referring to this as a too technical term.

Mathieu > What if we called it "ADD ORIGINAL"? I mean, we only want our visitors to use for that purpose, don't we?

Not sure about others, but I when I was checking for new activity, I would first click "Suggest covers and samples" (at the bottom of the home page), which would immediately provide the most recent submission activity, including the number of views. Next, "New replies to my posts" was just another click to see approvals, questions, etc. on my open matters. As I still have matters open from years ago, I'm not sure how new activity on those would be brought to my attention.

Perhaps this old dog is just scoffing at new tricks, but I think it's more than that. Nevertheless, you kids "get off of my lawn"!

Personally I'm finding the new functionality under "participate" a huge improvement. I can close generic submissions and quickly see everything that I've made a comment on or where I've asked for more information.

Thanks also for including the "need more info" option for submissions. Could you clarify what happens to those submissions? Do they disappear from the list of covers until the user provides the additional information required? I would support doing this by the way - but will the editor be alerted when the user replies and provides more information?

I had messed around with the new approach on the test site, and had no real objection to it or anything particularly in favor of it either. I suspect with time, I;ll be fine with it,

I do have one issue that involves this topic: https://secondhandsongs.com/case/65418 . This relates to the submission of the work "Seduced" and several covers. I think I entered the original and all covers on February 8th, and I believe I delay locked the topic. I noticed that on the new interface, the "Seduced" submission showed up as open. I couldn't simply lock or delay lock the topic with the new system. To close the topic, I had to reject the submission, although I had already processed it, including all covers.

I note that a couple of other editors have said they had to reject submissions in weird circumstances since the new interface went into effect. That is my one current issue (I haven't worked much with the interface yet on the actual site}, but I'm hoping I have no other problems or issues. I'm sure the new interface will result in a reduction of the speed with which I can undertake editing functions for a while, but I also suspect that in time, that will no longer be true.

Yikes! Can we no longer edit our posts? In an attempt to make things easier for the editors, I am constantly editing to add cross-references as a result subsequent posts. Just tried to do just that, but was...

The "edit" function is valuable as well for correcting mistakes, which I tend to make periodically in submissions.

Again, what is a generic submission. Unfortunately, the word had come to mean, " having no particularly distinctive quality or application " OR products one buys that have no brand name, wrapped in white paper/black letters. The suggestion for "add original" makes more sense. Each time that I have wanted to add a new song (not in SHS database) I could not remember where that link was--. Using "ANY" for tis purpose is inviting users to avoid the menu altogether and just use "Any." THAT defeats the purpose of the menu.

While thinking of ease for editors keep your users in mind and make it "user friendly" logical and avoid their/our confusion.

Again, under the user's submissions you were able to sort the "Artists".

It would sort the artist in alphabetical order, you can then easily look down the list to see what artist you were familiar with and then have at it.

But what do I know, I only average inputting about a 75 to 100 covers a day!??
