500.000 Originals & Covers

The milestones keep coming: Just a week ago we reached 500.000 originals and covers listed! It took us only a year to grow from 400.000 to half a million songs. A big thumbs up to the whole editor team for their massive effort!

Wow well done all. And yes I'd recommend to anyone thinking of becoming an editor.

Maybe next month we could reach 60,000 originals and we are "just" 7,000 far from 100,000 artists! All these numbers are impressive.

Since I am being forced to reply and you are throwing stats around, I am guessing (since there is no other way to find out other than scrolling 100s of pages) that I inputted over 20,000 covers plus over 800 originals.

I would love to see that breakdown by editor for the year 2016. Would that be possible???

First, a question: I am assuming that the 500,000 figure actually includes performances recorded on a release. Is that correct? If not, we have far more than 500,000 total recorded performances, including traditionals and other works where an original cannot be determined.

Second, I agree with Quentin and Dash.

Third, It is fun to be an editor, but in my view, it also carries responsibilities. I am in favor of adding editors, but only from music fans who are interested in doing the work to look for images of artists and label logos, to provide brief biographical information, and to add comments that provide interesting or pertinent information related to entries when appropriate.

As for new editors, everybody willing to put efford into the work is welcome. The entire African continent is unrepresented and African music the probably most underrepresented in the db. One more editor from Latin America, one from Australia, an Arab and an Indian....

However, Tim rightly points out criteria new editors should fulfill, and I guess those basically go for all of us -it's not only about numbers of versions.

So (digging statistics, too), I wouldn't mind to also have stats for artist additions. share of artist, release and label entries done including comments, of artists and labels added with pictures etc.

No, all performances, not necessarily linked to a release.

Actually that's not a bad idea, you could raise some funds selling them on Facebook.

Then again,, you might be stuck with a couple of hundred shirts, but the good news is at least you know you will have shirts to wear for the next 20 years!!!

I don't know Erik... I have one of WhoSampled though from previous editor days. It's almost worn out, therefore my request!

It sounded like they were already existing...

Anyway, great idea! Why not do a limited editon, say 50 or max. 100, white print of (not too big!) on black or cyan/turquoise (the two main SHS site colours), one size (XL). Active editors get one for free as an incentive and everybody else pays a price that covers the costs...
