Submission Presets

The new submission presets are live, check them out in the Participate interface: "My Covers", "My Corrections" and "Replies". (*)

The purpose of these presets is to cover 80% of all your needs in terms submission filter combinations, and that you do the 20% remaining filter selections "manually".

Any feedback is welcome, we hope this will increase the user friendliness of the interface.

(*) If you're an editor these will be slightly different presets.

No I mean exactly what I asked, "I still want to know what is a "generic'? " When this process bergan (the updated/new version? I asked, henced "STILL" since my question was ignored and never answered.

Just what exactly is generic submission? This list is rather redundant. What is the difference between "any" and generic? And what is under "cover or generic." Maybe an explanation of whinch one is used when and for what would help. Otherwise it appears that other than "error" anything goes anywhere, defeating the purpose of the categorization.

The types are structured as:

• any
• submission: new information for SHS (in the list: "cover or generic submission")
• generic submission: any unstructured submission. could be an original + cover, could be just a cover, could be a whole release, could be a submission made by email that Bastien copied to the forum. Generic submission can still be created using the 'submission form' if you don't select any work.
• cover submission: a submission created with the 'submission form', where 1) a work was selected 2) and the option 'for sale' was chosen.
• error report: correction of information in SHS

In the future there will be a proper form for submitting originals, and you'll no longer be able to create 'generic submissions'. However, they still will exist, as automatic conversion of those is not feasible.

HUH??? This is so redundant and leaves much to be explained. We're back where we statrted and makes what I said even cleared. WHy have categories? if any is any. And I did mention that the nly clear categorey is obviously 'error".

Doesn't seem that complicated to me, so I'm likely missing something. Anyway, as I see it, there are three main types of posts that merit a preset form:

a) "Cover" - New cover/adaption of an original already on site;

b) "Original" - New original with at least one cover; and

c) "Error" - Error report.

I have also suggested:

d) "Discuss" - A comment, question, etc. that is tied to an artist, work, performance or release already on site. (Though there would not be a preset form, but relevant internal links would prefill.)

Everything else would go somewhere on the chat boards (such as this thread).

My guess is that "generic" is a relic of how the site used to work, namely when new originals did not have a formal process or form. Essentially, management labeled all public posts not submitted via a button as "generic". As and once all posts are submitted via a "button", there's nothing left to be called "generic".

But if that is so, why hang on to it? Improvement/advancement quite often means, out with old and (IMO) in with the new only when it is needed. Often the "new" makes the old obsolete and unnecessary.

We've been told that "generic" is going away for new posts (at least that's my reading), upon pending upgrades to the site, but that it is impractical to convert the existing ones. They will remain as relics until closed out/processed.

Let's remember that most of Management are not native English speakers, and connotation is often lost in translation. We see "generic" as a clumsy word for this purpose. "Other" or "General" might have been better, but some assumptions of good faith and wide latitude is appropriate here.

Sometimes editors get these threads under Reply Requests. If we don't have anything to add, we have to just type in "Read" so that the reply goes out of our inbox.

I didn't get a request for this, so that is why I never typed anything in here. (Plus I'm tired of chasing my tail.)

I'm guessing others like artinspired & Frokor got a request and typed in "Read". They weren't trying to be weird or anything, at least I don't think so. (I like weird sometimes!)

I took it as "read" as a command rather than the past tense.
