Private Messages

Several suggestions to improve the Private Messages feature:

a) As mentioned in an earlier thread, a bulk deletion function (check boxes) would be nice. I and assume others like to keep in/out boxes cleaned out;

b) I've noticed that internal links don't auto convert to the relevant text, as they do elsewhere. Is there a reason for this; and

c) There is currently no way to forward a message. Is there a reason for this limitation?

Great suggestions; the lack of functionality makes me avoid using this feature nowadays.......

Checking on the status of some older site suggestions....

Besides the bulk delete function, seems like all of the suggestions (which were more important) were implemented. I have no objections to closing this thread, as someone can revisit the bulk deletion function later in a dedicated thread if they so choose.

The reason I'm unsure about implementing this, is that I fear it will stimulate editors to have more private conversations on database features and entries. Oour policy is the opposite: We encourage to have most discussions public: in the forum regarding features, and via error reports with respect to entries.

The more conversations are public, the more all info, sources and reasonings shared remain public and useful for all. It will also help to piece together how some entries came about, in case of need.

Your point makes sense, but it doesn't avoid discussions between editors taking place outside the boards of even outside of SHS...... Some discussions are not meant for the general public / for all editors / for management to see.

Anyway, Forget my suggestion; I'll retract my request for this new enhancement...

We are aware of that and that's perfectly fine. But we don't want to enhance it.

I recently sent an non-SHS email to another editor precisely because I could not attach a visual to a private message.
