In 1957 Marcel Amont released an EP titled Mon manège a moi On that EP is a track titled Les yeux doux, which is a cover by a work written by the American team Al Hoffman and Dick Manning .

I have listened to Les yeux doux on Spotify various times and I do not have a clue what the original work could be. Anyone of the editors ever involved in this entry? Or anyone else?

I took a shot at what I could find by reviewing my music pool. The only song I have credited to both H and M is "Allegheny Moon", which is a cover by Anne Murray (not on site) on the release below. Per wiki, the definitive performance is by Patti Page in 1956, which would just be a year earlier than your song:

Unfortunately, the Murray recording is rather slow, so I doubt it is the same work even accounting for a different arrangement. Google translates your French title to "Sweet Eyes"

Sorry, I can be of no help, my involvement was limited to changing the label.

Thanks. Piergiorgio, I was only trying to look for help.

Dear VirileVagabond your suggestion to have a look at Allegheny Moon did not give me the answer! However, it was interesting to enter the work into the database and also some covers including a Danish one...................

So, problem still not solved, helas.

Well, I did note that I doubted Allegheny Moon was what you wanted, but wanted to give the results of my efforts to help.... Smile

I also scanned the list on wiki of the songs composed by that team, but none seem to match the Google translation, so I didn't have anything else to offer....

Hey, I needed to evidence I was being a team player!

I haven't got the slightest clue, sorry.

Bastien, how does one ask all the other editors to chip in and give their opinion? Or has that been realised in this thread already?

Apart from Manning & Hoffman, it looks like a third author was involved, see french EP: "Fiel" probably being "Irving Fields".

Thanks ever so much, Walt and based on your remark I found a work called "Makin' Love" recorded in 1958 by a Billy Raymond and this song is written by Manning, Hoffman and Irving Fields..................

But I could not find this song on Spotify or YouTube yet. I could be our song........

The search continues.

Yes! "Making' Love" is the original of "Les yeux doux". It seems that Billy Raymond sang the original and it was covered by Jane Morgan and her version can be found on YouTube:

Hurray, thanks everybody and especially Walt for his suggestion to use Irving Fields as an extra search paramter: you are a prince!

Mon manège a moi was added to the database and is a cover of Makin' Love . Two performances of the English original were also added to the database.

Thanks everybody for helping me out on this.

Quite a brilliant remark, Joop! I was so enthousiastic about finding the original work, that I did not see this discrepancy. So we will have to look for an earlier recording of the original work in English................ It would be logical if it would be from an American artist. So the search goes on!

The song is the same and the french EP looks wrongly dated. I overruled 1957 by 1958 by roughly observation of other EPs in that time-frame:

1957 (20 730 - 20 805)

1958 (20 805 - 20 885)

1959 (20 885 - 20 970)
