Dear GentlemanGhost, Ricardo Franca, leonoel48, david_eric, Miguel Alves, Bendysan, Ross Van Der Heide, Oldiesmann, DROSSELBOY, Sunset Ravens, Edward Antonescu and lumat !

You have gotten a "reply request", because you have been adding one or more Web Covers to the database lately. We call Web Covers non-released covers, for example:

One More Light, Tab "Web Covers"

This is a rather underused functionality at SecondHandSongs, so we would like to ask you: If you could add/change something to the way we process or visualize them, what would it be? I'm leaving the question deliberately open, so you can go in any direction you want with your recommendation.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

You could have a tab for unofficial versions by famous artists, and another one for home productions, eg.

"Off the Record" and "Homemade"

I like Bendysan's suggestion. Professionally produced covers sometimes seem like strange bedfellows with lo-fi self-made cell phone covers.

Also, I ran into trouble before where the uploader was not the same as the performer, but the performer was not in the database and even though I entered the performer's name, it just showed up as "unknown." My primary example of this seems to have disappeared from YouTube, though.

Also, it might help to feature Web Covers more prominently on the home page. We can see recently added covers and recently added videos, but not recently added web covers.

I've only added one web cover so far, but also ran into the problem of the artist not being in the database. It was several well known artists performing together. I'd like to see a way to either select multiple artists or add a new artist so it doesn't show as "unknown"

Yeah, this can also be tricky. Even though I knew one song that I added recently was technically Mumford and Sons + Haim, I felt I had to make a call to pick one or the other.

Wat is your question ?

What would you change, add or improve about the underused "Web Covers" feature?

Thanks a lot guys! Let me summarize your suggestions:

  • Distinction between professionally produced videos and homemade low-fi videos. (2 votes)
  • Solution for artists different from the uploader, and not in the database (2 votes)
  • Solution for joint performers (2 votes)
  • Feature web covers more prominently on the homepage (1 vote)

Any other suggestions on how we can get more of these submitted, and more of these rated?

The ALL page of a work or performance should show (or at least indicate the existence of) the web covers of the adaptations.

Good summary.

As far as the rating goes, I've always been reluctant to do so. For amateurs with homemade videos, I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings if their renditions don't match the caliber of the original performances. I'd probably grade too favorably.

I see.

The reason we're interested in getting ratings, is to be able to suggest the best or the most relevant web covers to our users.
