Polish singer Natasza Zylska recorded a cover song of Bill Haley in the 1950s.

The song is called Trzy kurki in polish, which translates into "Three cocks".

On You tube one can listen to this performance:

I have no knowledge at all of Haley's work, but I imagine there must be someone, who can tell me, which song we are hearing here.................

This is a weird one. The opening riff is a bit Rock Around the Clock, the rest sounds like it might be based upon Pat-a-Cake, which was Haley's 1953 rock and roll version of the Pattycake nursery rhyme. [[| Here's Pat-a-Cake for comparison. ]] Interesting find!

Thanks, I will have a further look and a listen. And if anyone can do better................ I mean better than Pat-a-Cake. You must say it is a rather weird choice by these Polish producers!

Yeah, that was from the era where Haley & company were still throwing things at the wall to see what stuck in terms of rock and roll because there were no rules. I get the sense of European performers doing the same as they covered some really obscure (and not always classic) Haley songs in the early days.

But the Polish prima donna recorded this in 1958 and that would be in a period, when Bill Haley's heydays were almost over............. But thanks for the suggestion and I will try to work from here.

Oh heck no, Haley remained huge in Europe and Mexico and other places well into the 1960s and in fact he spent the fall of 1958 undertaking a huge tour of Europe that included making a movie appearance with Caterina Valente, and London (among other labels) had a very active reissue program of Haley's Essex recordings (of which Pat-a-Cake was one). One of the most popular European covers around this time was actually of Haley's version of Ten Little Indians, even though it flopped in the US. There is every likelihood that this performer in Poland was covering Bill Haley's version of Pat-a-cake.

Pat-A-Cake by Bill Haley is now on site. Could you have a look at the other composer: according to GEMA this is Marshall Lytle and ISWC does not give a Haley work called Pat-A-Cake! On the record label on can clearly read Williamson, which leads us to Billy Williamson.............

What do you think?

@CarlDennis - let me check with my sources. As far as I know the co-writing credit is Williamson, not Lytle. Lytle was uncredited on at least one song (Crazy Man Crazy) but I'm pretty certain this is just Haley and Williamson.

@CarlDennis and all. One of my fellow researchers did some digging and according to the U.S. Copyright office, the correct co-writer credit was indeed Marshall Lytle, but Billy Williamson's name ended up on the label either due to a mistake or some sort of behind-the-scenes arrangement. [[

EDIT: Sorry, guys, the URL is too long for the URL link feature to parse properly. But the link should still work. If not I'll upload a screen capture

On the original release it's Williamson. This is confirmed by BMI, which has the song listed as "Patti Cake"........ Updated the work Happy

I was a bit to quick and undid the update to reflect the new info supplied by 23skidoo Smile

Both Billy Williamson [steel] and Marshall Lytle [bass] helped recording the song back in 1953. So we'll never know for sure who should be credited. I do believe these special circumstances surrounding the credits should be mentioned briefly in the comments work page. But I'll leave that up the CarlDennis.

Added all this info to Pat-A-Cake and decided to both credit Lytle and Williamson.........

Thanks everybody for your input.
