I just noticed that on an Artist's home page (look at Lawrence Welk as a great example), then click the COVERS tab. As you scroll down his list of songs you will notice an "I" to the left of the Song titles in some cases now. It appears Mathieu/Bastien have added this feature to indicate that the song is an INSTRUMENTAL - and I love it. It's simple, doesn't take up much room on the page and does the job (without my having to click each song to tell whether it's a vocal or instrumental). This will also help reduce errors as it will be easier to see if you forgot to check instrumental when scanning the songs on an entire album by a performer. It is only on the TEST side for now but I think it's great. Hoping others do as well.

I've suggested something like this several times, so I certainly support something along these lines. I can't see the changes yet, I looked at John Williams [US1] ..., but based on your description some initial thoughts:

a) I would prefer that the instrumental indicator be included with the other descriptive tags (i.e. on the right side). That would make the list cleaner and more concise in my view;

b) As you say, currently one has to click on a performance from the artist's tabs to see if an instrumental. Frankly, this has been a barrier to my reconciling my notes with SHS, so I generally don't check. With this change, I can easily check for errors. To contrast, currently if my notes indicate a live recording but I see no tag on site, I can simply click the performance and add the tag. This change would result in a similar process.

Warning: Assuming that there remains a lot of miss-indexed instrumentals on site, this change could result in a large increase in related error reports, resulting in a short-term but high burden on the editors. Seems like a good time to revisit allowing CCs to make such corrections....

Well maybe somehow they just implemented this on my Test page, I was hoping to hear back from the Editors on this. I'm not sure, it just showed up the other day after I had broached wanting something with Bastien during our last video training session. Where they have put it you will be fine with I think. I just snipped a copy of it off my page and added an attachment that will hopefully be viewable. The 2 songs (Doin' the New Lowdown and Clarinet Polka) with the "I" symbols to left of name are the instrumentals in that section of his covers page.

And I think that is an excellent idea. We could have an "L" symbol next to the where the "I" is if it's live. That would also make it easy to catch stuff since we don't say a song is Live in it's song title. Those 2 symbols really don't take up any space on the page.

While I like the use of icons, my position remains that they should all be grouped in one column. While my thoughts are more detailed in a related thread:

…, in short we should create a table of 2-3 letter icons for "First Release" and all of the other descriptors, flags and tags, and have them all show in the info column.

The "i" symbol has been there for a long time (possibly even years), but from what you and VV are saying it looks like it might only be visible to editors. Which I would think is a bit of an issue.

Thx for the feedback. People probably thought I was nuts posting this then. I definitely don't see the "i" symbol on the Real site, maybe I just wasn't aware that I could always see it on the Test side until beg. of week (because I guess I had never gone through an Artists covers/originals pages on the Test side). I just assumed that Bastien had added that feature because I kept mentioning we needed it. He definitely didn't tell me at the time we already had that functionality on the site. Very odd. We were even discussing how it would be implemented. But I'm glad it exists, and yes, it would be nice for everyone to see that on the "Real" side.

Just logged out, and you guys are right, the "i" disappears. This is clearly an oversight and should be fixed.
