Tag: Live

Curious..., seems like there can be two (maybe three) types of performances/recordings that would qualify for the "live" tag:

a) True live recordings with clear crowd, etc. noise heard;

b) True live recordings that has been processed in the studio to make crowd, etc. noise undetectable; and

c) False live recordings that were recorded in the studio but crowd, etc, noise has been added.

Anyone have any thoughts? Category a) is clear, but categories b) and c) seem to require an additional comment to explain the presence or absence of the tag....

No thoughts on this after ~6 weeks?

To flesh out more, it is my understanding that some or perhaps all of the "live" albums released by Johnny Rivers in the 60s were actually studio recordings with crowd noises added for effect. In my notes I have these recordings as "[Live]", but should they get the tag? Get the tag with an explanatory note in the comments? Get no tag with an explanatory note?

I've only used it for actual live recordings, whether or not the crowd noise has been processed out. False live recordings such as Elton John's "Benny and the Jets" shouldn't count for that tag.

"Bennie" is a funny case to me. I would say that recording was produced with obvious live effects but wasn't supposed to be considered live by the listener. This is different from the referenced Rivers' recordings, which I believe were intentionally produced to deceive the listener.
