I just wish I hadn't been told I could now start fixing all these releases without images. Got my hopes up for nothing.

You should be able to add missing front cover art, but it sounds like you are not able to?

Bastien, I'm confused. I thought I was told by Sebastian that you had turned on the functionality to add missing Visuals on releases

You're confusing release visuals and release attachments.

  • Visuals = The visual of the release, which is used to graphically represent the release
  • Attachments = Relevant documentation shared among editors. Most often used for back and vinyl scans.

It goes without saying that adding visuals is a much higher priority than adding attachments.

And the advantages of this change from just filing an error report are....? Frankly, if I had filed a report I would have offered even more links to the standard websites:

https://secondhandsongs.com/edit-review/82

  • The database is updated immediately
  • No additional workload for editors

First, something weird seems to be happening, though it may be specific to this case. When I click on the "Needy Time" link in the edit notice it does not take me to the release at issue. Searching for "David Evans [2]" does not return the artist.

Second, I likely need to get a handle on what happens on the editors' side of things. There's a difference between a notice and a review/approval. A notice is just that, a ping to the assigned editor that VV has messed with your stuff. The editor can either ignore (I trust VV, no worries) or review the changes (that VV screws up all the time). A review/approval is what happens with an error report.

What exactly does an editor see and is required to do upon a CC adding an additional source link (or any other authorized revisions/additions for that matter). Does just a simple notice generate that can either be ignored or not? Do the changes temporarily apply until an editor approves, at which time they become "permanent" or revert?

It appears that when there is no assigned editor, the notice/review flows thru the "Participate"/"Search" queue. If there is no assigned editor to receive the notice, etc., should one be generated at all and just let the change go thru?

It links to the audit log so the editor can view the full history.

It's a notice + a way to undo or validate the changes easily.

The changes are always done immediately.

Well Bastien, I think it goes without saying that since Attachment visuals aren’t even required apparently and since they don’t have to adhere to the image standard that the Release Primary visual does anyway, that it seems overkill to not allow CCs to add them. No programming changes need to be made. It’s a simple authorization control change. I highly doubt there is one Full Editor on SHS that would be upset if a more Junior SHS person added missing vinyl label scans to a release they “managed”.

As long as notified about such additions, I surely wouldn't mind.

Vote for ticket #3140: Allow CC's to populate the comment field of the external link when submitting an external link

Ticket was implemented today.

I have no issue with CC's adding attachments.

Olivier, that ticket may have been implemented. But the visuals definition on that ticket wasn't inclusive enough so it only applied to missing Front covers (or as I call them - Primary Release images) - which CCs apparently can now do. Bastien has created Ticket #3159 which is the other half of that - to add missing visuals for the B-sides/Back covers/Side 1 & 2 vinyl scans so we can more readily support our entries.

So hopefully people will understand what this new ticket is and vote for it. I'm not sure where he noticed people about this ticket as I'm the only one who has voted for it presently.

Thx Mark
