We're starting off 2020 with a long awaited implementation: The new access level "Certified Contributor Level 2".

From a long term perspective, this upgrade is part of a strategy where we want to create a hierarchy of acces levels to have everybody on his or her most appropriate level, depending on musical knowledge, data accuracy, database skills and commitment.

On the short term, the purpose is to create an access level similar to CC Level 1, but giving powers to edit data on top of just adding missing information. In concrete these are the first powers being attributed:

  • Removing incorrectly attributed Youtube videos
  • Checking or unchecking Instrumental status of a Performance
  • Editing the Artist Comment Field

In the future more editing powers could be added, or more access levels, we'll see.

Among editors we had a little vote to select the Certified Contributors most suitable to test this new feature. The following contributors got 3 or (much more) votes:

  • blues99man
  • dany
  • DROSSEBLBOY
  • freakscener
  • Jeff Chamberlain
  • jojo
  • VirileVagabond
  • wikke

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you!!

Looking forward to your comments, suggestions, questions, etc... Our goal is continuous improvement.

Have a fantastic 2020 everyone!

Merci pour votre reconnaissance et confiance

A quand la possibilité d'ajouter une version dans une autre langue pour le même artiste ?

C'est possible lorsque l'on crée l'original plus la reprise , mais quand l'original existe déjà

Bien à vous

This is definitely much closer to how I originally envisioned the CC role to function. My apologies if I have been unreasonably impatient while we got to this point.

In many ways I feel like this role is my baby, but I do think we could use some break time and stop adding to and revising the CC roles to let them mature and get some more experience as to whether the trouble is worth the effort. Let's fine tune what we have unless a pressing need or concern arises.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that we stop promoting contributors to CC, but rather letting the CC role to gel a bit.

Yes, it is a good idea to step back and leave it alone for a bit.

Congrats....I'm ready for these folks to be able to do more than swap a video. I'm sure they are too. Hard to get excited about something that should have been implemented long ago. We have some dedicated folks that would do a great job helping us improve the Releases we have on the site.

If I added a release and didn't take the time to add the missing b-side or back cover or Side 1/2 artwork and say Dany reviewed it, located it and wanted to add it - I would be go for it Dany and thank you for adding it - and I wouldn't want an error report for him to do it. Hard to know if you had the song titles or performer names correct without the visuals and supposedly our Guidelines require us to defer to the "vinyl label" - which is impossible to know if we don't have the images loaded.

Ticket #3159 supposedly will address this.

Same thing for Song titles and such. If I set up a Release without the images (which we too often have done) and guessed at the song titles or album title or performer names (and again, aren't we supposed to defer to the vinyl labels) and Dany comes along and wants to add the missing images and in so doing sees I had a title wrong, then I would much prefer his being able to fix my song title than have to file an Error Report. It wouldn't offend me in the least and I'd welcome his diligence and concern.

Congrats Jeff. I think your work is above and beyond. Incredibly so.

I think as part of the "training" we need to teach folks how to add the GEMAs/BMIs/ASCAPs to the submissions...The basic submission forms don't ask for that as I recall.

Erik, my title got changed to Jr. Editor and I have no clue what that does. I don't seem to have any additional abilities to edit things. I think this "title" stuff is not productive. People get a "promotion" and think they have powers they quickly realize they don't have - unless you are a Full Editor. We are a collective group. We are blessed with a lot of caring, dedicated people who want to do things right. We have tremendous trainers (like Sebastian has been for me) who impress upon you the "correct" way to interpret things. The guidelines and "minimum" standards have evolved over time and it's much more rigorous for the newer folks. So like any legacy organization the rules evolve and some of the legacies aren't in favor but I think we should be more open minded in authorizations than territorial. Let's use Dany as an example. I'm sure he brings more to the table on a lot of the Spanish entries than most all of the Editors combined. Maybe it's time to allow others to modify things.

Nicolas (Drosselboy) is quite an expert in finding covers in foreign languages by the original artists, a practice very normal in Europe in the 1960s and 1970s for pan-European artists like Vicky Leandros, Petula Clark and so on. Lately he has been stating the whenever he tries these days a secondary submission is not accepted by the system: artist already has a version on site of this particular work........ What should be done?

But let me not forget to congratulate the Level 2 CC's! Good work and a great help for us, editors..............
