Not surprised, just dissatisfied.

Not suprised nor dissatisfied. After all it is an option and I can't expect that everything is available everywhere for free. An expectation that too many people have. If i wold see Spotify as a valuable option for myself I would subscribe. The best that can happen after pressing the button would be the following:

Only free version available: Open the free version (YouTube)

Both a free version and a pay-only version available: Give the option to open either free or pay version (Which version of the song you would like to listen to? (please select). If logged in, SHS users could have the option to define what should happen in their profile, i.e. make the spSpotify version the standard.

Only a pay option available: Display a message that there is no free version and you are forwarded to the pay version (Spotify) only available to Spotify subscribers.

Ah I thought Spotify worked with the free subscription too.

I agree with Gath there should be separate indicators. It's a simple UI layout change similar to what Allmusic.com does. The right column has separate indicators for streaming on Spotify or Amazon same could be done Spotify/YouTube.

Thanks for the proposal with screenshot. Always helpful/

Also, what are the data analytics on the usage of the feature in the first place?

Not sure we have any. Mathieu?

Still i'm in favour of having at least two options for someone to listen to.

Don't worry about that. It's not about one option or the other, it's purely about how we visualize things.

For non-subscribed user only a sample of the song is available.

And the results are:

9 Not surprised

11 Suprised & Dissatisfied

Conclusion: If only 50% of our users are happy with the current visualization, then that's not enough.

Thanks for participating everyone!

Indeed although the basic subscription is free and you can still listen to the whole song with Mathieu’s plug-in.

Maybe Google analytics can help. It pays when running a website to track and update web features that are actually being used by subscribers as well as sporadic visitors. This way you can concentrate resources where they make the greatest impact. I'm not a Dara scientist but you can tell as a product manager I've worked with a few. Wink

I don't like to be obliged to use Spotify. Give us the opportunity to chose.

I did notice some of your feedback was too specific to be a coincidence Wink

We never planned to oblige anything, it was only a question regarding user interface.

I Personally think that Spotify still doesn't have as much Info as Youtube, when looking at old 78 rpm, it is quite obvious that you tube still has way more songs than spotify so yes I would be dissapointed.

It seems that there are strong opposite views. How about the ability to select in your user preferences when the play button should show:

  • When there's a YouTube video
  • When there's a Spotify track

By default, the play button would be shown in both cases.
