To increase the user friendliness of our interface, and more specifically the way one can browse from one version to another, we have implemented previous/next buttons. See attachment.

  • The first set of previous/next buttons sends you to the previous/next version from a chronological point of view
  • The second set dito, but only showing the versions that can be listened to = The ones that either have a Youtube video or a Spotify track.

If successful, this upgrade should increase the number of pages viewed per session. To be checked in a week or 2!

Good idea.

On a similar theme of increasing user involvement - if I submit a cover (or adaptation if Canary prefers) of, say, Harper Valley PTA, could the system notify me of subsequent covers of the same song?

Maybe by email.

Ok, will check this out.

______
I have no relation to the artist Sara K. Just a coincidence. Due to private circumstances not able to participate anymore.

That's EXACTLY why we came up with this.

Initial thoughts.... This has no value to me personally, as I just scan down the Versions tab list and go to the entries that may be of interest. Nevertheless, others have different needs, interests, and ways of doing things; therefore, what do I get from using these buttons that I don't get from the Versions tab? Used Teach Your Children as an example:

The list shows performing artist, date of release, and tags/other info. Also separately groups instrumentals and adaptions. For non-editors/CCs, the new info is the release title/cover art, recording dates/etc,, rating, and other comments. I would guess that the comments has the greatest potential for value added here, so perhaps some uniform comment language should be created and encouraged to better leverage this feature.

Bug? Clicking on Teach Your Children (the first listed performance) and then the back button takes me to Teach Your Children (the second listed performance). Back again takes me to Teach Your Children (currently the last listed English performance). Forwarding from there just reverses the same order.

Now coming from a release page, say The Great Blind Degree by Richie Havens (which has a cover of "Teach"). A user may expect that clicking the buttons will take them to the next performance on that release. Not sure if anything needs to be done about that, just an observation.

I think the next playable should come first, i.e. be on the left, as it is more for the casual user. The other one is more for editors, and may not get used much.
