The fundamental classification criterion in our field is the artist:
person - John Lennon
or group - The Quarrymen
or a sum (juxtaposition) of artists - Stéphane Grappelli, Yehudi Menuhin
This criterion, being the essential, is also very easy to establish.
The second classification criterion is the record label, a strange entity that is sometimes not easily deductible and can create genuine headaches.
What about EMI Electrola ?
I transcribe the definition put by the editor-creator...
Country Germany
Active from 1972 to 2002
Comments Logo appearing regularly on German pressings issued from 1972 to 2002 (with infrequent occurrences between 1983 and 1994).
Two external links appear.
The first link is a company (EMI Electrola GmbH: German subdivision of EMI Records from 1972 to 2002).
The second link - I say: will this be the record label? - should be the important one.
After reading it, I deduce that the editor-creator's source of information is DISCOGS.
But, ladies and gentlemen, DISCOGS says more things, by way of warnings...
Please use always the branded/coded label as primary label. You can enter EMI Electrola as a label when the EMI Electrola logo appears on the release.
And more:
The 'EMI Electrola' logo will likely appear on releases of following labels
Apple Records (LC 1074), Arista (LC 3484), Bell Records (LC 0130), Capitol Records (LC 0148), Deutsche Harmonia Mundi (LC 0761), Electrola (LC 0193), EMI (LC 0542), Harvest (LC 1305), His Master's Voice (LC 0233), Immediate (LC 0009), Liberty (LC 0249), Motown (LC 0881), Papagayo (LC 6712), Private Stock (LC 3475), RAK (LC 1750), Tamla Motown (LC 0363), The Rocket Record Company (LC 3053), United Artists Records (LC 0379), etc.
So, I, somewhere, see this logo: EMI Electrola...
but the label may be another name: EMI, Electrola, etc.
I give two examples:
Dolce Vita -----> Electrola
Liebst du mich ----> EMI

Only use this label when its logo appears on the release and that's typically between 1972 and 2002. When it doesn't, the label will probably be EMI Records, Electrola or some other sublabel, based on the logo.
