In 1980 Neil Diamond recorded Love on the Rocks, a song co-writen with Gilbert Bécaud. We have over 40 covers on site and one of them is a Finnish cover by Tapani Perttu but already recorded in 1974! It is called Kun sammuu rakkaus:

The two Finnish databases stated that the 1974 Finnish version was a cover of a Diamond/Becaud work titled it L'amour est mort, as Becaud's 1981 French recordings are called.

If my Finnish entry is not "Love on the Rock" as suggested in an error report to me, which original is then?

Anyone?

The video is blocked here and a YT search for "Kun sammuu rakkaus" yields nothing of assistance....

Looking harder, I originally questioned the release date as the Discogs entries jump from 1974 to 1988 but RYM also indictaes '74.

I then started to wonder about printing errors (i.e. the credits) as the release title (Ootko yksin sä nyt) also seems to translate to "Are You Lonesome Tonight":

Since I see no track on the release titled "Jäitkö yksin sä nyt", I'm now assuming same song but you forgot to change the specific performance title? Unconfirmed autogen has different translator?

You are definitely letting yourself go, VV.........

There is no doubt that the album Ootko yksin sä nyt was released in 1974! The other songs you found can be traced to the 2009 Oon sun mies album, which one day I might enter into the database!

No clue what you mean. Since the performance as issue is an adaption of a work composed well after 1974, that release date certainly was the place to start questioning. Moreover, I ultimately didn't question based on my quick findings.

If it's impossible for the performance to be an adaption of the stated work, this suggests entry sans audio conformation.

Also, are you wanting a separate error report on Jäitkö yksin sä nyt, as I see no track with that title?

The leads were just notes on some possible finds that I saw while hacking through some autogens for what we wanted....

The two Finnish databases got it wrong, though the title was almost the same:

Thom here's the real ORIGINAL,

The song 'Kun sammuu rakkaus' in Thom's video is certainly not Love on the Rocks, but I also don't hear any resemblance with Joop's proposed song.

I'm afraid you could be right Walt.

The translated title though (Kun sammuu rakkaus=Quand l'amour sort) pointed very clearly to this song by Becaud. So I thought this must be the song.

But after that, I did not pay enough attention to a thorough musical comparison.

But Walt has corrected me as a real detective.

Thom, shouldn't we delete the song from the DB as it's a clear error, probably it is Finnish after all and not a translation.

I certainly will delete this song, but maybe some others might have a brainwave...........

This thread really raises some concerns for me:

On what basis did the performance get added? Credits alone?

Why didn't the system ping a likely error with the dates making no logical sense?

I personally rely far more on editor due diligence on non-English performances than I do English. I don't hear the similarity but SHS says it's an adaption. How many of these are out there that aren't obvious due to release dates?

As things stand, I agree with Walt and this needs to soon be deleted and a "to do" note added to the e-notes....

The Finnish work has now been removed. The release Ootko yksin sä nyt now has the following editorial comment: This 1974 album contains a song "Kun sammuu rakkaus", which according to the Finnish PROs is a cover of Love on the Rocks, a 1980 work by Neil Diamond and Gilbert Bécaud! The Finnish cover does not sound like the younger original, but the Editors of SHS have not been able to identify the Finnish work. Maybe it is not a cover at all. See als this SHS thread.

All contributors, thanks ever so much for your efforts.
