An upgrade many contributors have been requesting for a long time: It's now possible to submit a cover song by joint performers, and identify the individual artists. These can be existing artists in our database, or new artists, or a mix of both.

This is how it works:

  1. Write the joint performer alias in the PERFORMER field, exactly the way it is/they are spelled on the release.
  2. Tabulate
  3. Click on + ARTIST
  4. Change or add the common name of the individual artists in the COMMON NAME field
  5. Tabulate again

And then this how the form could look like:

The upgrade is brand new, there are probably some details to change or improve. We're looking forward to your feedback!

A special thanks to Mathieu , who discovered that, what seemed liked a simple upgrade request, happened to be quite a complicated job Smile

Oh boy, I hope all that effort by Mat was worth it. I was content enough with my workaround, and there were few problems as a result.

My initial thoughts are to try the new system when the submission requires it, but if I find bugs (which would be understandable at first), I'll likely resort back to my workaround and report the bug.

Not sure about the "exactly appears", etc. We already have "A featuring B" on site, but the submission has "A & B". In the past I've submitted under the styling we have on site and let the editors revise the submission during processing. Simply too many different situations to predict them all.

Looks like a definite trial by fire. Good luck to all....

I'm gonna give it a try whenever I've got the opportunity!

Is it still possible to choose the connector; &, feat., featuring, "-", with, and, ...?

Without a doubt, a spectacular improvement... it was much needed

Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I saw no "+ Artist". Tried to use new feature on:

https://secondhandsongs.com/submission/109336

The pair are on site as Anita Sarawak with Ismail Haron, but I was going to try submitting as "&" or "and", but ended up just using the currently available "with".

Yes Mark_Heyrman follow whichever connector you see on the release Smile

Ok, thanks. I noticed the new look and functionality but did not realize it is for joint performances. Will test asap.

Ok, I just used it for a joined artist but the drawback is that I obviously have to create the joined artist over and over again. I cannot "reuse" it after I initially created it. That is very annoying if you have a bunch of covers to add for the same joined artists. Why not making it actually user friendly and enable also CCs to create such artists once only?

Brilliant. One of the things we need. Consider this read.

We hadn't thought of that scenario just yet. We may find a solution in the future, thanks a lot for bringing this to our attention!

Mathieu this feedback will surely interest you Smile

Did you tab after entering the joint performer name?

I do what I always do. Tab, click in next box, whatever. The problem may be that it's a "one shot deal", in that I may have pasted something in the artist field, the +Artist appeared, I decided I needed to revise the field, the +Artist never reappeared. Not sure.

It's felt clunky to me so far, but that could be my issue. I'm not prepared to take any position on the new feature yet, but will likely remain quick to fall back on the workaround for a while.

Update: Tried again to use the new enhancement for what looked to be a prime candidate:

https://secondhandsongs.com/submission/110260

Results are not what I would expect. The top reads "Cruel Summer by Alex Seda" while right under that it reads "By Alex Seda (Krista Kleiner, Mart, Alex Seda)". Looking under Cruel Summer I see just "Alex Seda".

None of the artists are on site, so perhaps that's it. If I'm not doing it right (a real possibility), then the process isn't intuitive for me.
