When submitting a new original, be it a root work or an adaptation, you're de facto submitting a new work.
In order not to submit works that have already been submitted before, but currently unprocessed/unverified, Scousedave suggested (in this forum topic that these "unverified works" be displayed under SONGS WRITTEN BY on the artist profiles:
