How can I add two very different covers of a song by the same artist.

Dan Penn has recorded two very different versions of his song Is a Bluebird Blue: one in 1965 as the B side of a single and then again in 2007 on his album Junkyard Junky. I successfully registered the 2007 one but when I tried to enter the 1965 version (having posted the Youtube of it) the algorithm (?) told me that this artist was already in the listings and I could go no further. As befits the 42 year gap between them the two performances are very different, and as the guy wrote the song in the first place and neither of his performances were on the list when I came to it, I do feel strongly about putting the record straight. I’m new at this so maybe I’m missing something in the entry form ?

Hi ericrlever we only allow one cover of a particular song per artist. There are a few exemptions to this but not many. And the version should be the earliest release by the artist. So my suggestion would be to withdraw the 2007 entry, submit the 1965 one and add a note about the later release. This can then be added as a comment to the 1965 entry once it has been processed by the editor talking on the case.

Ta for the swift response sebcat. As long as the end result of your suggestion would be that both versions of the song would be that both videos would be accessible on the page I’d be happy to try that, only I would prefer to leave the 2007 in place and add the 1965 version as a comment. The 1965 is good but the 2007 is better and should take pride of place.

Just a reminder that Bastien has expressed his hostility to these types of comments.

The risk ericrlever with doing this - Case #236566 - is that the editor processing the submission doesn't know there is an earlier 1965 version. I'd recommend changing it and linking to the 1965 version, mentioning the 2007 re-recording in a comment in the submission.
