Today I started using this new feature.

Walking through discogs I found a version of Asturias and left the essential data in my personal list.

Why? Because right now my head was on something else...

I see what you mean 👍

Slim D,

I'm a historian at Fresno State with a keen interest in the Beverly Hill Billies and the Happy Chappies. I've been through the Ken Griffis collection, but it seems like you have information beyond that. Could you email me at dcady@csufresno.edu and perhaps tell me a bit about your research?

I have some personal research like "work ID numbers" for future projects that are now in my personal documents. These I could add to this new feature, but then I have to be sure, they come up after a search.

I defintely see the point and technically I expect this to be fairly easy. Shall I create a ticket Mathieu ?

Not as straightforward as you may think, as it would only search in the users' notes, but go ahead and create a ticket.

Ticket #3601

walt up to you to vote for it 😉

Thanks for the update on this new feature. It will be interesting to see how it's used.

walt Where would you like to be able to search personal notes? The general search bar? Or in detailed search of each entity? Or a dedicated detailed search for personal notes?

- a dedicated detailed search for personal notes would be good for me.

As a courtesy and to satisfy my curiosity, I ask again that someone please offer an example of some note that is both relevant to an entry but isn't better put in the editors' notes?

For this discussion, I'm ignoring my suggestion that these "Personal Notes" be change to "Public Notes".

For example, when I add a CD with several covers but don't have time to add them all at that moment, I just write "Finish this later" in my personal notes. That way I can easily get back to it whenever I want to. There is no point placing this kind of notes into editor notes.

Because I don't have the powers of a full editor yet, I make a remark into the personal notes to correct something what in fact isn't an error but on which I can do a better job.

First, thanks for the reply.

Second, there is a point to making this type of note more public, namely to notice others who may take an interest and accelerate the submission/additions. A "Finish this later" when the intent is to return after lunch or in the next morning is fine though likely not necessary, but when the delay is expected to be relatively extended a public "Includes additional covers" would be the better practice, no?

Perhaps the enhancement could be a tick box for "Likely includes additional covers"?

Second, this wouldn't seem to apply to entries assigned/managed by another editor, as one wouldn't normally revise another's entry for subjective style or preference. Do you mean matters that are not report-worthy on entries that you made but can't currently edit? Maybe additional source links? Why are source links hidden anyway?

Well, nor for me. I prefer this way so that I don't lose control.

Another example of my personal notes is "songs from movies and musicals" (which enables me to gather various Czech releases containing film music) of "there are more songs written by Sezen Aksu on this CD" (for some later research).

a) Isn't "control" and "ownership" something that SHS is trying to avoid due to the team concept? Many (if not most) editors already have a gentlemen's agreement to not work on an artist or release on which another has recently worked, but that "hold off" expires at some point.

b) Not sure about "songs from movies and musicals". Don't see any opportunity costs there, but others may differ.

I am not talking about ownership. I don't mind other editors working on releases created by me, absolutely not. However, I want to keep track of my unfinished entries - so that it doesn't get lost in history.

Which should also work with the e-notes. I speak from experience, as there has been a number of occasions in which the e-notes indicated additional or even unknown covers that I could identify and submitted. Hidden Personal Notes is a lost opportunity.

For instance, you have everyone's email address, so what is stopping you from selling that list to Apple or Spotify?

That's why I have my own email domain. I can create an infinite number of aliases, so each place I sign up to gets a unique address. If I get spammed, I know exactly who the culprit is. Wink

Sorry about the long hiatus. Between work, and looking after my 80-year-old mother, it has been difficult to find time to do anything else.
