Is this really for authors/composers subscriptions rather than artists subscriptions? I thought it was meant to enable subscribing to our favourite bands/singers so that we would get a notification each time a new performance (original/cover) by this band/singer would be added. Does it work like this, or not?

Work for all artists. It should however have been titled 'Enable artist notification'; that covers it better and avoids confusion

No, only new works. I've implemented as requested by the ticket.
