Guidelines / Performance Title

  • General idea: Stick as close as possible to the release
  • We consider additional mentions like "Live", "Instrumental" or "Demo" not part of the performance title.
  • Spelling: Use the spelling as on the release in question, but with correct capitalization and diacritics.
  • On 78rpms you can often find the type of dance after the title: Waltz, foxtrot, etc... This should not be included in the performance title.

Example: The title of Jeannie is "Jeannie" without "Slow Foxtrot"

  • If a performance is on multiple releases, it might have different titles on these releases. In this case the performance title should be as on the first released release, the other one should be entered in the releases comment box.
  • If a performer has multiple performances with the same title, the title of the first performance or first recording should have the year of the performance between square brackets. The title of the released performance should have no square brackets.
  • Translations
    • If performances are listed on the release with both the title of the root work and the adaptation, only list the main title (so not the one between brackets).
    • This guideline is not valid for transliterations.
  • Multiple titles without connector: Use "-" as connector

Example: As Time Goes by - I Only Have Eyes for You - Yours
