Guidelines / External Links

Mobile vs desktop links

Always use desktop links.

Desktop links will switch automatically to the mobile version, but it doesn’t work the other way around.

Example: Choose https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundown_Heaven_Town over https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundown_Heaven_Town

Artist pages

Be aware that when you use the ISWC external link as a search shortcut, search results tend to be incomplete, even when the creator ID is correct.

Work pages

What to do with unmatched credits?

If the credits in SHS and the other database are identical, but the database doesn't recognize an artist as one and the same, you need to create that link. Go to the artist page and add the IPI code of the unidentified identical artist in the external links.

By default, NEVER delete external links.

  • If the link is dead, edit its availability and mark it as "This link is dead".
  • If you don't know what it's for, ask for more information in the editor forum.
  • Exception: Delete the external link if it refers to a different entity than the SHS entity in question:
    • Example: An external link on the David Bowie SHS artist page that refers to the Discogs profile page of... Michael Jackson.
  • Exception: Delete duplicate external links

Comments

External link comments are limited to the title of or a short description of the link.
