Main Search

Queries

Obviously can you search on artists, performance titles, release titles and labels. But you can also search on:

  • Artist IPI codes. Try for example searching for "00131821113"
  • Artist Discogs URLs. Try for example searching for "https://www.discogs.com/artist/229866-Don-McLean" Using these functionalities will speed up your research workflow and decrease the risk of creating duplicates.

Results

  • "The" is ignored
  • Song search results include:
    • All works that include the text string
    • All works that have versions that include the text string

      Consequence: Because one of the versions of Jingle Bells is a medley simply titled River , the search results for "River" include the work Jingle Bells .

  • Search results for works and artists are ordered by the number of links to other database objects.

    Example: Searching for "Leonard" will give Leonard Cohen first. The lesser known artist Leonard is second because it is an exact match. Example: Searching for "Both" will Joni Mitchell 's Both Sides Now first.

    • Scoring for artists
      • -10 for each character in the name (incl. spaces)
      • +1 per performance
      • +1 per release
      • +1 per work
      • +1 per tribute

        Example: Searching for "Leonard", artist Leonard Cohen has a score of +217:

        • -130 as their are 13 characters in his common name
        • +112 for his 112 performances
        • +80 for his 80 releases
        • +104 for his 104 works
        • +51 for the 51 tribute albums dedicated to him
