SecondHandSongs is always looking for new editors. Are you interested in working directly on the database? The fastest road is to editorship is to be active as a regular member:

  • Submit missing covers
  • Report errors or missing information
  • Add missing Youtube videos to songs
  • Rate songs

When your input is significant and quality satisfying, we'll upgrade your account to Certified Contributor and eventually to Editor. It's also a good idea to let us you're interested in joining us by posting in the Feedback board, that way our team will keep a special eye on your input.

What we expect from our editors

The main principle is: Quality first.

As we're trying to build the most accurate cover song database, we expect people to be as accurate and complete as possible when adding covers to the database. This implies including complete background information and citing sources used.

We also expect our editors to regularly check to see whether visitors or other editors reported mistakes about their entries.

Finally, as all new editors have been submitting users first, we expect you to give priority to processing your own submissions. Which doesn't mean you can't do other activities you enjoy of course.

What is the ideal editor profile

  • A vast musical knowledge

  • A passion for research

  • Structured and well organized, as you'll be working on a database

  • Good social skills, as have a constructive collaboration with your colleague editors

What we do NOT expect from our editors

  • To add a certain number of covers on a daily or weekly basis. Basically, if you add 1 cover a month, or 100 a day, it's up to you.

  • To process the covers submitted by our visitors. We highly appreciate this, but it's entirely up to you.

  • To restrict to particular genres or artists. You add whatever covers you feel like.

Is it complicated?

No, it's very easy, you don't need any particular informatics skills.

To make it even easier, we first give you access to a "test site" where you can experiment as much as you like before working on the real database. Other members will be there to guide you through the learning process, and to help you out with any question you might have.
