Trainee Checklist

  • Set up a visual/avator for your SHS user profile
  • Like our Facebook page
  • Communication
    • Give a short presentation (anything you want to share) in the forum thread with your name
    • Use the forum to communicate, this will allow any editor to jump in
    • Avoid PM and email
  • Submissions
    • You can continue submitting covers on public website, but beware you're only making your own To Do-list longer.
    • Also, as an editor you won't be using the submission form anymore, except for web covers.
  • Essential reading list
  • Make sure you understand the difference between a work and a performance.
  • Link your SecondHandSongs account to your Discogs account. If you don't have a Discogs account, create it first.
  • Process your very first submission on the test site
    • Go to Participate > Unprocessed Own Submissions
    • Choose a submission with the green "Cover" label (NOT with the blue "Generic label)
    • Click on "Assign to Me"
    • Start processing...
  • Works
    • Create a new work
      • Link your work to ISWC, ASCAP, BMI and GEMA. Access them through our list of PRO databases.
      • Manage a data mismatch: Decide whether to overrule or correct
        • Read the guideline first
        • Then pick a case from the error list. Preferrably process one of your own entries, if you don't have any, pick any other.
    • Create a foreign language adaptation
    • Make an existing work an adaptation of another work
  • Performance
    • Attributing an existing performance from the wrong to the right work
    • Create a medley
    • Create an original performance that first appeared in a movie. Requires creating a Broadcast first.
  • Release
    • Create a release using the Discogs form filler
    • Linking an existing performance to a second release
  • Create a joint performer while creating a release or performance
  • Changing the performer of a release, and subsequently using the "Mass Edit" menu to likewise edit the performances on the release
  • Artists
    • Crop an artist picture
    • Create an artist relation
    • Merge artist aliases
    • Convert an artist alias into a joint performer. See Video tutorial
  • Use mark-up language
  • Upload an attachment
  • Submissions
    • Process an entry using the "Create" buttons
    • Register a performance
  • Ask editor access to our Facebook page
  • Ask to be added to the Editor World Map
