Comments
Ashokan Farewell was composed in 1982, after the end of the season of the Ashokan Fiddle & Dance Camp that Jay Ungar runs with Molly Mason. It is written in the style of a Scottish lament. Mason suggested the name of the tune. It is most famous for being used in Ken Burns' PBS series The Civil War.
