The performer was asked to submit a demo for an unnamed film and TV project. She chose to perform a Mandarin cover of Coldplay's Yellow, 流星 {Liúxīng} She got the job, and about an hour before arriving at a studio to record it, she learned it would be for Crazy Rich Asians.
Initially, Coldplay did not want to license the work, but a letter from director Jon M. Chu persuaded them to allow it in the film. As he told "The Hollywood Reporter", "We're going to own that term. If we're going to be called yellow, we're going to make it beautiful." - Rating
