According to cover.info.de a cover was recorded in 1975. Still looking for the release!

Does not get us very much further. I will see what I can do................
Jay & The Americans broke up in 1973, but Jay Black continued performing under that alias after that.
This is all I can make of it: as found on a 1986 sampler and credited as Jay Black formerly of Jay & The Americans.
But no 1975 release, I'm afraid..............
