I am suggesting numerous covers by Eugene Chadbourne be added to the database. So far, I have not suggested any of his covers that appear on CD-R. There may be others that do this, but I'm only familiar with Chadbourne doing it, namely, selling CD-Rs of recordings. Sometimes these are remasters of his previously released CDs that were actually originally released as CDs -- rather than CD-Rs. More generally, they are entirely new material. They can be found at his official site "House of Chadula", and I classify these CD-Rs -- which I've ordered directly from Chadbourne -- as being on the House of Chadula label. I always get them with Chadbourne's unique packaging, which are often works of art in and of themselves.

Is there a SHS policy with respect to whether covers on CD-Rs of the variety I have just described are eligible for inclusion in SHS?

If they were released by a label or self-released by an artist, then it's ok to have CDr's and tapes. Examples:

Thank you. That answers my question. These are CD-Rs that Chadbourne issues himself of this own work.

This discussion seem to answer an issue I have come across quite often recently. Does this still apply today?

I have added a lot of Black Metal covers recently, and I have so far (mostly) excluded tapes and CD-Rs released by the artists themselves. These are often labeled as demos as well, but not always. So according to the discussion above, these would still be ok to add?

As part of the Black Metal "ethos", which includes DIY and to keep it as lo-fi as possible, many albums have been released on tape only, even into the 2010s. Quite a lot of artists have later re-issued these self-released tapes and CD-Rs as "proper" albums on a "proper" record label. If the original tapes/CD-Rs are excluded, then what would be the original release in these cases?

Yes. A release must be "officially and publicly available", that is you can buy it, download it, or comes with a magazine, a book... I suppose, in your case, people can buy those album from the artists themselves, so they're okay to add.

As for demos (and promos) they're not okay to add, unless... they are made "officially and publicly available".
