Another tough work for finding an original.
One thing is for sure: written by Rafael Hernández.
The originals website says
(o): Margo Llergo (1946) label: Peerless (Mexico)
With Antonio Escobar's orchestra. Three year older copyright.
This could well be possible, but I can't find recording/release information...
A version I did find is by Dezi Arnaz. This version was first mentioned in Billboard of 20 april 1946.
According to this document the Arnaz version was first recorded on July 26, 1946 and released on Victor 25-2550.
It was also performed by Arnaz in the movie CubanPete which was released in June 1946.
So I'm looking for:
- More info about the Margo Llergo/Antonio Escobar version
- Even earlier versions. The song was copyrighted in 1943 so it's possible.
