Remake of a song by the same artist - submit?

Would it be appropriate to submit a remake of a song by the same artist. For example, Donna Loren released "It Only Hurts When I Cry" in 1965. She then remade the song and released it in 2009. As far as I can research, noone else has covered it in a commerical release. So should I submit it?

Hi Adamg

If both recordings were released under the same artist name e.g. "Donna Loren", then we wouldn't consider the second one to be a cover so there's no need to submit it. It sounds like this is probably the case.

If the artist names are different then it's usually worth submitting (e.g. Rocker has been recorded by Gerry Mulligan a couple of times under different names, but by other people as well). If in your example different names were used but no-one else has covered it, well I'm not actually sure if we would accept it or not Happy .

Cheers!

Great, thank you. Some of Donna's Beach Party movie songs seem to have been covered very shortly after she released them by other Beach Party co-stars. Once I have the right dates for those, I will submit them. For songs where she has 'covered' herself (e.g. "It Only Hurts When I Cry") but don't seem to have been covered by anyone else as an official release, I will not submit. Adam
