Not sure what to make of this. Just discovered a number of likely Spanish adaptions by a Las Ventanas, which are in queue for my normal review process. While reviewing the few releases on site, I found:

https://www.discogs.com/Las-Ventanas-Paquete-De-Nuevos-Éxitos/release/7135455

... which suggests a "cover" of "Wearing and Tearing" by Led Zeppelin supposedly originally released in 1982 on Coda ...:

I quickly sampled the two vids below, and there are some musical resemblances, but I'm not that familiar with the Zep "original". As I didn't want to just drop such on oddity, I post my findings here in case someone has an interest.

From autogen:

Volando al Sol · Las Ventanas

Paquete de Nuevos Éxitos

℗ 1968 Sony Music Entertainment México, S.A. de C.V.

Released on: 2016-04-01

Composer, Lyricist: Sergio González

The resemblances seem rather slight to me. The shuffle in the riffs reminds me a bit of Mona or Not Fade Away and there is a bit of a resemblance in the "sonic signature" of the guitar — it's conceivable that Las Ventanas heard "Led Zeppelin I" and were inspired by the guitar sound.

And the second video consists of a blend of Zeppelin and Ventanas, presumably to show the resemblance, but to me it just highlights how different the songs are.

But the discogs entry seems nonsense to me. "Wearing and Tearing" was written in 1978. There's no way Las Ventanas could have covered it in 1968.

I will (of course) defer to the editors on this strange "find", but I will note that it is my understanding that Plant and Page have been accused of stealing and non-crediting material numerous times. I suppose there's a chance that both are really derivatives of some unidentified work.

I can absolutely believe Page and Plant appropriating someone else's song. But what discogs alleges is the opposite: That a Mexican band covered a Zep song written 10 years later.

I concur, hence my liberal use of "quotes" throughout this thread, which suggests your "written" should be so qualified if this remains an open question. Smile

Frankly, I don't really have a dog in this fight, as I don't care much about either the "original" or "cover", but I realize the editors dig these types of questions.
