Found this on an album I added for a rendition of "Blue Tail Fly" which I added earlier. While their version of "Blue Tail Fly" is significantly different enough from the traditional work to consider it a new work, I'm not so sure about this one. Like "Blue Tail Fly", this is also listed in BMI with credits by two of the band members.

They have been working on the melody as far as I can tell. But I know it's a thin line between adaptation and arrangement or even improvisation.

In this case I'd create the adaptation if I were you.

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure on that one since his version is listed in BMI as well, but so is the one by Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers for that matter. It's weird.

Yeah, this stuff highly inconsistent and hugely debatable Smile

My advice: When you make decisions in these grey-area matters, explain it in the notes.
