Not sure where you're getting that date from the referenced site (not that I'm saying it's incorrect). This is a recording of the danish version, dated 1956. How is this evidence that the Spanish original was written in 1954?

The first mention that I have found is 1954 from the music compilation from Amazon:

Los Numeros 1 Del Pop Espanol 1954 / Various

Pop Espanol '1954' (Artist) Format: Audio CD

which includes at position 17: PEPITA DE MALLORCA TRIO GUADALAJARA

So I guess it was composed that year or earlier.

As far as I can figure it out, the song was originally an instrumental piece played by Antigono Godini and then covered in many languages. He appears in many sources as the single composer, any other versions that include him are only covers with various texts (Danish, Spanish, French or German).

It seems that the original instrumental version interpreted by Godini himself is not available anymore. Godini was musically active after the WWII as it is listed here:

So the song was composed somewhen between 1946-1954. This is the farthest I could go back in time searching for the original.

If anyone has access (and best of luck) to other resources than me it would be awesome to find the original.

I have found a poster from 1956 ( source here) that says:

Testo italiano di DANPA ( Dante Panzuti)

Testo spagnolo di PEDRO (unidentified)

Musica di A. GODINI

which makes me believe the song was indeed in original an instrumental one.

Matthias, isn't it time, that we do something with this vast amount of information?

Even if we can't an original in the beginning, we can work our way backwards..............

The 1985 EP by the Trio Guadalajara is now on site containing their version of the work sung in Spanish.

It is als featured on an album Los números uno del pop español: 1958.....

I could not trace an earlier release by this trio!

Assuming the song is not older than 1956, serious sources are not given yet, then this is probably the Italian original:
