Going down a rabbit hole...

This Bent Fabric rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper. I just finished up a third tribute album (minus a couple songs that I can't find the originals for). Among the songs on that album is one from a 1978 musical. While researching the original of that song, I found an album by Papa Blue's Viking Jazzband consisting entirely of songs from that musical. Since both that album and the soundtrack album for the musical are now on site, I'll go ahead and finish out that one too.

Unfortunately I can't find any information about when the musical actually debuted (though the official soundtrack album was recorded in October, and the other one was recorded in September according to Discogs, so somewhere in there apparently)

Finally done with Bent Fabric stuff for now. Added one more tribute album I found earlier. I never realized how much he wrote, considering he's pretty much only known for "Alley Cat" over here in the US. He was quite a prolific composer apparently.

Ended up down a Bye Bye Birdie rabbit hole of sorts tonight after hearing "We Love You Beatles" on the local oldies station earlier...

5 versions of "We Love You Conrad"

2 versions of "A Healthy, Normal, American Boy" (a song from the musical that was performed as a medley with "Conrad")

3 new albums (one by Bobby Rydell, one by various artists, one that's a remastered/deluxe edition of the musical soundtrack)

Several additional new performances

And that's not counting the songs on the Bobby Rydell and various artists albums that aren't on site yet or the performances from the 1995 made-for-TV version that I haven't investigated

Somehow ended up deep in a Springbok rabbit hole. I don't even remember how I got into this one but I've been slowly adding the missing albums (one or two per night depending on time - it takes a while since I always end up finding things that aren't on site yet, some of which take a while to research, and I sometimes get sidetracked by related things - usually additional covers of a new work or by a new artist)

They are quite addictive indeed. But good fun.

Based on the label, which is leading, I’d suggest making the titles Hit Parade No. xx rather than Hit Parade xx.

Apparently Elvis' "Moody Blue" was so popular it appeared on two SHP albums - #28 in 1976 and #33 in 1977 (at least based on artist credits for #33 on 45worlds).

On a related note, I found a German adaptation of that song that wasn't on site yet.

Just added the 38th Springbok Hit Parade album, and still have another 25-30 to go (not sure exactly how many they put out but 45worlds lists titles as high as Springbok Hit Parade 73). Finding some interesting music along the way as well.

Hit Parade No. 39 is now on site. This one includes covers of some huge hits from late 1977/early 1978 - ABBA, the Bee Gees, Linda Ronstadt, Rod Stewart, Uriah Heep, Emmylou Harris and more.

An example from today.

Browsing the Icelandic copyright website and found an Icelandic cover of a song by Marc Fontenoy - Bella Musica.

Original not on site but found a Dinah Shore recording with co-writer Geoffrey Parsons.

No mention of him as co-writer in ISWC but they showed Geo Koger as co-writer.

Sure enough it is a 78" French original in SACEM with Fred Adison as one of the performers.

Then found covers in German, English, Danish and Swedish and a DDR version.

Added them all and almost forgot my original Icelandic cover.

Went down another one tonight. Hearing J.D. Souther's "You're Only Lonely" on the radio on the way home from work eventually resulted in 1 new artist, 1 new work, 2 new albums and 14 new performances. Check out Brotherly Love if you like traditional country/bluegrass/southern gospel. You won't be disappointed.

It will likely lead to numerous additional performances, as the new work I added is apparently now a staple of southern gospel music.

Just interesting to me how people define the same general concept differently. To me this isn't a rabbit hole but rather just a typical starting lead and related finds. This difference doesn't result in harm, but does evidence how miscommunication can be so easy.

Not a rabbit hole but the sense of satisfaction you get in finding Hebrew covers of two of my favourite songs - Bartender Blues and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.

Ended up down another rabbit hole that ended up with what is now the 29th adaptation of the famous Italian song "O Solo Mio".

Started adding a few missing covers by Lou Monte.

Added his version of the famous "Bella Notte" from Lady and the Tramp

Went to see if anyone else had recorded "With You Beside Me" and found a version by Frank Verna

Found this while trying to find more info on Verna

Facimel'a Twist

Also found another song that Verna recorded which was later recorded by Conway Twitty, but it's 3am here so I'll continue down that rabbit hole tomorrow.

Ended up down a WWII song rabbit hole tonight after finding "Remember Pearl Harbor", mostly by following up on songs that appeared on the flip sides of recordings of that song. Half a dozen new works, over a dozen recordings and who knows how many releases Tongue

It was a German adaptation of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down that got me interested in SHS. I heard it at a German restaurant. I was like "I know that song!".
