I would like to say that the very first "theatrical" release of "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" was by Ilene Woods on 15 February 1950 for the 1950 Walt Disney Animation Studios feature motion picture Cinderella. I would also maintain that Ilene Woods recorded this song in September 1949. So could tsk please type for the video "First recording and theatrical release by Ilene Woods (September 1949 / February 15, 1950)" for proof.

What source do you have for the recording info? We typically don't add theatrical performances that debuted after the first release of the piece, but we can add it here if it was indeed recorded before the Perry Como version.

As Jon already said here; https://secondhandsongs.com/error-report/25275

Ilene Woods performed 2 different versions:

The film-version with Paul Smith conducting, was apparently recorded sometime between September 19 and October 7, 1949

SEE INFO on the back of this CD: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Cinderella-An-Original-Walt-Disney-Records-Sound…

And on October 26, 1949 in Hollywood, with Harold Mooney and his Orchestra, she recorded sort of a cast-version of the song in Hollywood.

I think it's most likely, Ilene's film-version pre-dated Perry Como's version.

BTW the accompanying Youtube on A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes is not the film-version.

Here's the film-version:

Good find Jojo! Unfortunately Perry Como's recording date October 3, 1949 is inside this period as well. Euan, do you have a source that narrows the period down to September?

OK, no source reported. I've made a few changes to Ilene Woods/P.Smith and Perry Como/Mitchell Ayres and updated the video. It seems we started out with that video but replaced it because it was not embeddable. Something must have changed because it is now.

Now I will look into the Liszt piece.

The Liszt piece is now, er, liszted... Wink

Transcendental Étude No. 9 (Ricordanza)

I suppose technically I should enter the variations as a series of three adaptations, but I decided not to as it might end up being more trouble than it's worth.

I wonder if someone with knowledge of German and the ability to read gothic script could transcribe the first lines of the poster illustrated at https://josephjoachim.com/2013/06/16/the-flood/ , above the text "Notice of a concert by Franz Liszt for the benefit of the flood victims.". Unfortunately I can't make sense of the second line, the last word on line three or the last word on line six. Thanks!

Jon,

On high school I learned a bit of German.

And I am a real Gothic, so it was a piece of cake.

And here's what I make of this poster.

The German text is:

um die Mittagsstunde,

im Saale des Musikvereines.

Vorkommende Stucke:

2) Concertstück für das Pianoforte von C.M. Weber, gespielt von Liszt

3) Declamation von mad. Rettich k.k. Hofschauspielerinn

Sperrsitze a 5 fl. C.M., und Eintrittskarten zu 1 fl. 20 fr. C.M. sind in der

k.k. Hofsmusikalienhandlung des Herrn Tob. Haslinger,

und am Tage des Concertes an der Gasse zu haben

And here's the translation:
