Dear users & editors,

As of yesterday, when submitting a new original, the submission form will ask users, optionally, to provide a PRO work code. (see attachment)

These are unique identifiers used by the Performing Rights Organizations, and we support work codes for ISWC, ASCAP, BMI, GEMA, JASRAC and OSA. Find the links in our editor manual.

By submitting the PRO codes you will help the editors in processing your submission, and you will also make a good impression in case you have ambitions to become an editor one day Wink

Thanks in advance!

PS: This new feature was implemented following the debate that followed the CC2 implementation.

Read. As always, to set expectations....

I find the official databases awkward to use, attempting on the rare occasions when either desperate to find a/more rare covers or disputing writing credits. Maybe it will be different, but I don't expect populating this field on the relatively few new originals.

To the manager's proposal I could add the following:

Mr. Editors: Review their originals so that the accreditation is based on some contrastable data.

I say this because we still have originals whose credits have no basis, neither a PRO nor a release.

I would also like to remind you that accrediting an unknown is not a disgrace, it is recognizing a reality.

Sensible warning, José Manuel! And I often find it very difficult to add "originals" without a basis in either a PRO or a release. But sometimes you feel forced to do it and I have to rely on other sources.............And an "unknow" lyricist is relatively often the case in Spanish translations of foreign originals. But I am always relieve when you have been able to track the author(s) of one of my unknowns................

I said that in a general context... and precisely my mind wasn't thinking about you Happy

I find originals accredited to a certain creator...

but without any annotations regarding the contrasting of the information.

I wanted to refer to this fact.

Sometimes adapted versions are added without checking if it is the same adaptation or not, causing an error. This is relatively common. My recommendation is that if there is a sign that this is a different adaptation, we should use unknown.

It occurred to me to ask, why spend too much time and energy improving the new original submission process when editor processing of these seem to be a lower priority? Certainly not exact and perhaps not representative, looking at just those submitted by me after the last major upgrade (i.e. ignoring legacy generics):

If the field was not present upon original submission and (more importantly) is optional, why would an original be rejected (auto in the case below) for not providing?
