It is a tango band that performed the same song on different albums, but in the first the leading voice was a male and in the second the leading voice was a female. Is the new cover credited again or is the first version the only version we can add?

Song covered by the same band but with leading vocals of different singers

I would only credit the first performance but mention the second performance in the comments.

"Would"? Can or can't a later performance be added under these circumstances?
I was holding off commenting until an editor did so, but I'd think the later recording can't be added but it should (i.e. the best practice) be noted in the comments under the earlier released performance....

Yup that’s exactly how I would handle, as I said. I’ve not checked the guidelines in detail in this point though.

The music gods and muses help us if there aren't some existing constraints around this. Why just a different vocalist (as per the original example)? Different guitarists, drummers, and keytarists don't matter?
We already have problems with duplicates under different alias. I for one don't want to see another mess....

Hi all, new to the discussion, but I was thinking about this too. Journey released an album of all their classics, but with Arnel Pineda singing instead of Steve Perry. They didnt change much in the arrangement, but it is technically a new version of the music.... There are a few other bands that come to mind: Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime, Queen and Adam Lambert...
Anyway, I am new here. I collect covers and thought MY knowledge was impressive, its cool to see there are people way above my level with whom to bounce the topic around! Have a great week!

You are right that there are a few examples where a band covers themselves with a different lead singer. We wouldn't normally include such cases in the database. One exception might be Queen and Adam Lambert, which could arguably count as a joint performance, as Lambert is an artist in his own right.

Great to hear Matthew Kennedy . There's lots of explore on the site. If you find any covers that we are missing, feel free to submit them via the add cover feature.
