Oldiesmann Here's an autogen it didn't pick up, I had to add it manually.

35 West 4th Street

Both Frosty and this one say they are autogens in the video description. Yet it picked up some and not the others.

So how does the API chose what autogens to add or not add?

Or are you saying that the servers have some vids and not others??

I have no idea how the tool filters vids down to the handful to offer as suggestions, but autogens sometimes do not return even with a manual search. It isn't all that rare that I can easily find autogens for some tracks on a release but not readily so for the track of interest. Sometimes the vid is just blocked in the US for some reason, but usually I can eventually find it using a pool of tricks (for lack of a better word) that I have discovered with experience.

The bottom line is that if the autogen is one of the vids that requires tricks, I can't see the tool pulling unless it's coming from a different, unblocked area.

Well I must say this morning the Auto Gen (or whatever we call it) has been FANTASTIC. Something changed.

Autogen videos often have restricted availability depending on which countries the particular company that provided the audio to YouTube has rights to that performance in. The autogen videos it picks up are ones that are available in whichever country the server is in. I've had times when it has picked up autogen videos that don't work for me (I get an error saying the video is unavailable when trying to watch it). It's possible it's not picking some up because they aren't available in whichever country the server is located in.

Well again. It's working as well now as it ever did (in my time at least). I'm so pumped that it's back and working optimally so whatever you did Mathieu, thanks!

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but I am new here. My friend is a professional musician who makes her living covering rock and pop songs and posting them on YouTube. (Most of her money comes from her Patreon supporters but she is known as a "YouTube star" having posted popular videos for over 11 years now.)

Anyway I see that the 'views' and 'likes' for her videos posted here are way off in some cases. One is 2.1m views when it should be 4.1m views. Do these numbers get set once and for all at the time of posting or do you plan to run a periodic update script every year or so? (I could write such a script for you if necessary using the official YouTube API.)

I guess now I'm coming back around to Wayne's opinion here. I've noticed of late that I sometimes will get a screen of 4 video choices and all 4 will be blacked out and says Video not available. Now I get we have plenty of instances where videos work inside or outside of US and not vice versa but it seems like something "broke" in the past 2 weeks as what I'm experiencing now it never used to do.

Yeah Mark, that blacked out thing, I think, that just started happening today.

Plus it also sometimes pulls up 2 out of 4 songs on the same album. The other I have to go over to Youtube and copy and paste them over here. It just doesn't make sense.

Like I said, it's half-assed fixed, not fixed.

Ok there are numerous more, it's not fixed, unless it's just not working for me.

Hey Wayne,

Spare just a second to think of Mathieu and me who've been endlessly mailing with Youtube and adjusting the interface to be able to reactivate the quick selection tool. The Youtube API is up and running again, that's a fact: You didn't have a quick selection tool for months, and now you do.

That it doesn't pick up some songs is also a fact, but that's a different discussion. In fact, I bet that one year ago the quick selection wouldn't have picked up the same examples you're mentioning here.

Speaking of which, they seem to have in common that the artist name is is not in video title, correct?

PS: I'm not mad at you Smile

It is fixed, but often one does not get an adequate choice and this has always been the case. I have made it a habit to go to YouTube separately and see what I get there.

Furthermore, the system does not work for artists with additives like [GB], [US2].

But having it back is great and will solve 40-50% of my YouTube requests.....

What Thom said.

Good point about the square brackets, I'm pretty sure we can tweak that. Ticket created:

Thanks Sebastian Smile

An adequate choice??? The examples I gave are straight forward choices...no brackets, no punctuation marks...just a title and and an artist. Just simples songs.

Did you try the examples are gave???

Just because you say it works, doesn't mean it works. Facts say it doesn't.

One of the reasons I have refrained more and more from participating in SHS discussions is the tone of them. As my mother used to say: C'est le ton qui fait la musique.

I had similar feelings as Thom when I read your post Wayne. Especially since you misunderstood what the fix was about.

Let's not make it a bigger deal than it is, but let's try to tone down a little? Multiple users have made comments similar to Thom's, and I can't blame them.

Thanks for your understanding....

2 & 3 where do we find these? they are not in "explore" or in "errors" AFAIK

2> I don't think you can "find" them. Do you confirm Mathieu ?

3> You have to go the through the ADD COVER interface and choose "Only on Youtube" to find:

so any "hits" are better than none so I'm thrilled it's back!

Love the positive attitude Mark! It's motivating to hear, we'll try to further improve it Smile
