I can provide input, but not all data

As a volunteer I work for a blind man, who happens to like covers of songs.

I search mostly on YouTube for him at his request, and SecondHandSongs is a very great help.

During my searches I do come across a lot of covers that are not yet listed here, so I guessed I could be helpful to add those songs (only the serious ones, of course), but most times I don't have much resources other than is provided by the post on YouTube.

So SecondHandSongs keeps asking me for extra data, but frankly I just don't have the time to search for that. That is, unless I stop doing the volunteer job I'm doing now.

My main question: is it acceptable that I just provide incomplete input (to make SecondHandSongs as complete as possible) while other people may add the extra data, or would you rather have me stopping with adding input.

kind regards,

Welcome to SecondHandSongs Sjef Smeets !

We are happy for all cover song suggestions of course. It is helpful - but not essential - for us to have as much information as you are able to complete in the pro forma. As you say, we will ask for more information when required using a need-info request. We have changed things recently so that, if you don't have more information, the case won't be automatically rejected when you reply to say so.

For some of the entries, such as this one, you have most of the information, including artist name, album title and release date. But you are not completing the fields in the pro forma. This means that your entry won't be displayed correctly when submitted. In many cases, including this one, you can use the Discogs form-filler to complete the pro forma. That will pre-populate most of the key fields for us without you having to fill in the details manually. And you don't need to do any further research except find the release in Discogs using their search function.

I'll try to improve my input, for some I already did. It's nice to be able to give something back.

Sometimes it's just too much info to process by me. For instance, when I was looking for covers of "Tainted Love" in YouTube, I noticed that it is very popular with Rockabilly groups. Lots of them have singles, but not much info, unknown record companies or their own label, a.s.o. But I can give you a list with probable names if that's OK.

And yes, I am Dutch. Originally "Sjefke Smeets" (with family in Limburg), but I live in Groningen, which is why the 'ke' from my name disappeared.

If their single is on Discogs, that's already 80% of the job done.

Aha! There are more Dutchmen involved in this project; CarlDennis and camembert electrique for example Smile

I had always thought Limbabwe was Dutch too Smile

Erik Limbabwe is definitely from The Netherlands and has a funny relation - I think - with the province of Limburg, where all these Smeetses live................. Smile

However camembert electrique is definitely a Berliner and the beautiful city of Berlin is not in The Netherlands.............
