It's seems rather obvious that the discussion forum is now dead or under Hospice care. The symptoms of the final illness:

a) Many editors not even being aware of recent topics (i.e. not even looking);

b) Requests for assistance from new members being repeatedly ignored;

c) Most matters, problems and suggestions being ignored;

d) When matters are discussed in some detail, no resolution is ever reached; and

e) Simple apathy.

Some highlights from the life of SHS and the once glorious supporting forum....

There must have been some renumbering in the past. How can work #x and performance #x sync so much?

Apparently in the early days of SHS, there were no "works" and "performances" - just "songs" and covers of them. When the change was made to separate works from performances, that resulted in many performances having the same ID as their corresponding work.

Even then, the conversion must have been a three step process:

a) All original "songs" get converted to works#x et. seq.

b) All covers "songs" attached to work get numbered performance#x, #x.2, #x.3 et. seq.

c) Finally all the performances with an #x.y get an non-decimal number starting from the first unused work#.

There remains a legacy from the old days, as the work page still labels it as a "song". I've suggested changing to "work", but alas as usual....

There are actually 6 different types of works - song, classical work, poem, film script, theater script and prose. I'm not sure how much (or even if) the last three are used but the first three are used quite a bit.

Hmm... I'd guess differentiating works came after the song to work/performance conversion happened. There had to first be "works" to differentiate?

Besides being obvious to anyone paying attention, more editors are admitting to me that they are no longer reading the discussion boards or read far fewer threads than before. Frankly, I can't really blame them, as discussions are currently now mostly fruitless.

Nevertheless, equity demands that all editors should be assumed to be at least basically familiar with the subjects being discussed. In the SHS real world, this means that if I or anyone else asks for guidance and no consensus, existing guideline, etc. is offered, then no one can complain about my making a decision and acting accordingly. For instance:

https://secondhandsongs.com/topic/76535

After ~6 weeks, no one can complain (other than OM) if I decide to file related error reports.
