Dear contributors and editors,

All SHS entities (Artists, works, performances, releases, labels, ...) now have PERSONAL NOTES

attachment

Obviously, everything you write in the personal notes will only be visible to yourself:

This is what it looks like after submitting:

attachment

If you also check the "On my TODO list"-checkbox, the SHS entity will appear in your TODO list under your user profile:

attachment

And at any time you can consult the full list:

We hope this new feature will be very useful to you! As you can see, we kept it very generic, so you can totally use it the way YOU want to use it.

This idea was vouched for by Dola , SlimD , Canary , sebcat and artsinspired . It's also still brandnew, so there are probably aspects to improve or change, just let us know.

It's great to have a notebook onboard. Let's see how it turns out in the future!

If an editor retires what happens to the personal notes?

Will other editors be able to use that research or will it just disappear?

Good point, that probably could be the standard, that the retiree hands over her/his notes, although that always should be her/his choice.

SS, I am always told that we don't own any content in SHS. So as far a as permission goes about using those notes, there is no editor's choice.

As I see it, personal notes are just a reminder to either add, correct or delete information at a later date. In other words, you are just making an error report to yourself.

So, I believe any editor should be able to see such notes. For example, if I was adding a release to an artist and during my research noticed some things wrong with other information on that page.

Wouldn't it nice to see such notes from the other editor and save you time. You could also inform that editor that you found some research to help them.

In my opinion all editors should be able to see these personal notes.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but wouldn't that make a personal note the same as an editor note? What is an example of some comment, etc. that is appropriate as a "personal" note that isn't better served as an "editor" note?

Consider the original example, "probably features a Katy Perry cover". If a processing editor is unwilling or unable to add a cover in the immediate near future, why make this hidden to others? Frankly, if this is the situation, there should be a tick box to notice others.

VV, I was thinking the same thing, but the Personal Notes are set up a little different.

If you look at Bastien's example, it is set up as a separate entity, sort of like a honey-do-list.

This is incorrect. You are confusing ownership and privacy. The personal notes can be considered as private data, and therefore SecondHandSongs can't use or publish them without your explicit consent.

As I see it, personal notes are just a reminder to either add, correct or delete information at a later date. In other words, you are just making an error report to yourself.

It can be much more than that, what you use them for is really up to you. No limits, no guidelines so to say. Imagine we ask everyone in 1 year how they are using the personal notes, well I bet they will report 12 different uses for them.
