But my ears are simply not good enough.

David, Scousedave I don't hear any resemblance with Candlelight.

In the liner-notes of the album of Saori Minami it says:

Track A1 starts with a telephone conversation between Cynthia (Saori Minami) and Janis Ian from a radio program called "All Night Nippon".

Janis Ian provided original songs for side A.

Side B contains cover songs of Bob Dylan, PP&M, Ian & Sylvia & Joan Baez.
