The authors of all the vocal covers of this song are credited as Count Basie and Jimmy Rushing. However there are two completely different sets of lyrics included here.

These are the lyrics:

1. https://genius.com/Count-basie-goin-to-chicago-blues-lyrics

2. https://www.google.com/search?q=Goin%27+To+Chicago+Blues+lyrics&client=firefox-b…

The covers before 1958 are all 1. with small alterations.

Going to Chicago Blues uses 2. lyrics.

The performance above is by Count Basie & His Orch. with the Voices of Annie Ross, Dave Lambert, Jon Hendrix and Joe Williams. So, John Hendricks is presente and he is the major lyricist of jazz instruments.

I counted 14 covers using lyrics 2. But for all of them the authors on the disc labels are just Count Basie and Jimmy Rushing. There are two exceptions for the Kurt Elling releases, where the lyrics are credited to Jon Hendricks.

https://www.discogs.com/release/15687108-Kurt-Elling-James-Morrison-Live-In-New-…

The covers with 2. lyrics are:

Going to Chicago Blues

Going to Chicago

Going to Chicago Blues

Goin' to Chicago

Going to Chicago Blues

Chicago Blues

Goin' to Chicago

Going to Chicago Blues

Going to Chicago

Goin' to Chicago

Going to Chicago

Going to Chicago Blues

Goin' to Chicago

I assume something has to be done to accommodate this situation.

I think they are not that different: all the verses from the 1941 version are completely included in the second part of the 1958 version

These are the lyrics:

1941 version

Going to Chicago, sorry that I can't take you

Going to Chicago, sorry that I can't take you

There's nothing in Chicago that a monkey woman can do

[Verse 2]

When you see me comin', raise your window high

When you see me comin', raise your window high

When you see me passing, baby, hang your head and cry

[Verse 3]

Hurry down sunshine, see what tomorrow brings

Hurry down sunshine, see what tomorrow brings

The sun went down, tomorrow brought us rain

[Verse 4]

You so mean and evil, you do things you ought not do

You so mean and evil, you do things you ought not do

You've got my brand of honey, guess I'll have to put up with you

1958 version

You keep your New York joys I'm going to Illinois just as fast as I can

You New York women think you'll make a fool of any man play all kinds of games

And you'll cheat if you can

Use love like a tool Make a man a fool

What a beautiful motto Got my money, that's it

How can you mind if I split

Going back where a womanReally knows the way to treat a man

And people are friendly Without no hidden plan

It's the best in the midwest

It's a real darn city full of Good folks who come from home

And when I get back I'll never roam far From my little Chitown

Goodbye, farewell I might see you later

Going to Chicago sorry but I can't take you

I come from Chitown going back to my town

Going to Chicago sorry but I can't take you

No use in crying tired of your lying

There ain't nothing in Chicago that a monkey woman can do

I got to quit you

When you see me coming, baby raise your window high

Hide your window to the sky, yeah

When you see me coming, baby raise your window high

Catch me passing on the fly, yeah

But when you see me passing, baby Hang your head and cry

Search your soul and Wonder why, yeah

Hurry, hurry down sunshine And see what tomorrow brings

Tomorrow, tomorrow

Hurry, hurry, hurry down sunshine And see what tomorrow brings

Tomorrow, tomorrow

Well, the sun went down and tomorrow brought us rain

Tomorrow brought sorrow

You're so mean and evil you do things you ought not do

My, you're a mean one First time I've seen one

You're so mean and evil you do things you ought not do

You used to be cool Now find a new fool

Got my brand of honey But I won't have to Put up with you

Hate you and your town That's why I got To put you down

Goodbye

So the credit to Jon Hendricks on the Kurt Elling albums is wrong and my assumptions unfounded.

I admire your enormous dedication in this case.

The ISWC gives:

and

So this includes both versions

But we could include a comment on the workpage of Goin' to Chicago Blues about the extended lyrics in the 1958 version

Yes. I think that something would be required at Work level.
