OK, I may be going a bit too far with this one, so I apologise in advance :-)

While digging for info on Iron Butterfly's "In a gadda da vida" (and Slayer's cover of it, see relevant post), I went to IMDB, where they list the song's composer, Doug Ingle:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1155448/

In the section "Soundtrack - Filmography", there is an entry for a Simpsons episode, "Bart sells his soul". I've seen the episode; at some point in church on Sunday Bart tricks everyone by handing out scores of this song as the day's hymn, so they all perform it in church, chanting accompanied by the church organ (it's actually a hilarious scene).

Well, you see where this is going.....

Should this appear as a cover in SHS? If yes, covered by whom? "Simpsons"?

Funny aspect aside, isn't this a valid question?

Thanks,

Greg

From our guidelines about covers:

A cover is a song that is performed by an artist different from the original artist. A cover must be released on a medium.

From our guidelines about mediums:

A medium must be released. This implies we don't include bootlegs, unofficial live recordings and demo's. A medium is usually released on a label.

A medium must be solely meant to listen to or among others meant to listen to, but the music must be the essential part of the release. This implies a DVD concert is considered a valid medium, but a DVD movie containing a cover song isn't.

I other words: the version from the TV episode doesn't count as a cover, except if it has been released on one of the numerous Simpsons cd's (Like "The Simpsons Sing the Blues", an album I own).

OK, I found it!

It appears on the CD "The Simpsons: Songs In The Key Of Springfield". Going now to the "Add songs" section to submit it :-)
